about

This record was born from an intense fascination with dreaming and sleeping – a desire to will our subconscious into tangible auditory and visual forms.

Throughout his younger life, Darius had consistently experienced what is known in technical terms, as sleep paralysis. Throughout history and countless cultures, it’s a phenomenon known as “the hag,” in Newfoundland, “succubus” in medieval folklore, and “Kanashibari” in Japan. While frightening, this experience was intriguing in that it seemed to bridge some divide between the sleeping and waking worlds. An apt metaphor indeed, especially when one embraces the artistic process: conjuring ideas from nothing to something.

So we hope you enjoy this record as much as we had making it. Scattered throughout it, are night recordings of Andrew talking in his sleep that range in emotions from the surreal, to the hilarious, to terrifying. We took the Summer of 2015 to refine the concept and tried to create a mood that personified all the ecstasy and dread that is associated with a world that truly comes alive when one falls asleep.

Sweet dreams,
