about

ADULT FUTURE RELEASES “THE DUFFERIN JOG”

Toronto – In those times of fear and confusion, sometimes you just wanna dance, ya know?

Taking the last year to refine their sense of psychedelic experimentation and applying it to pop song structure, Adult Future endeavored to make a record that culminated in a natural progression of their debut, harnessed with the stark minimalism of their sophomore album to create what they’ve always wanted to create: accessible, yet progressive pop songs that were an amalgam of their favorite 80s and 90s influences.

And in the last year, Trump has become President, society has grown divisive on race and income, and the world teeters on the edge of nuclear war.

“The Dufferin Jog” was a road detour located near the band’s studio in Toronto. For the band, it represented a metaphorical traversing to an extreme point, before one could correct itself and get back to the road upon which one belonged. This idea comes from Hegel’s dialectic of history in that humanity is naturally obliged to go to one extreme or another, before it can self-regulate and balance itself out onto a course of sustainable moderation. In other words, we need that detour: whether it’s Trump, anger or fear – all these sidesteps are necessary to make one realize that it needs to get worse before it gets better.

So retain these lessons of progression and apply them to your own life. While we don’t necessarily want to go off on that detour, sometimes there’s little choice. We suggest confronting that particular frustration with a little dance, on us.
